FUTURAMA premiered in 1999 as a show about a delivery crew in space, yet it had no business being this emotionally intelligent. The series can spend ten minutes on Fry being an idiot before dropping jokes about his past that only land properly years later. Even with characters like Bender, the depth feels unexpected.
