India's UNESCO World Heritage Sites have grown steadily over the years. In 2000, the country had 22 designated sites. That number remained unchanged through 2001, then rose to 23 in 2002, 24 in 2003, and 26 in 2004. It stayed at 26 from 2005 to 2006, increased to 27 in 2007, and held steady at 27 through 2008 and 2009. By 2010, the tally had further increased.
