Here is a look at the best-performing stock markets in Asia by year, based on historical data. In 2000, South Korea's KOSPI led the region. The following year, 2001, saw a tie between Russia's RTS and South Korea's KOSPI. Thailand's SET took the top spot in 2002. Indonesia's IDX Composite was the leader for two consecutive years, in 2003 and 2004. South Korea's KOSPI returned to the top in 2005, and in 2006, China's Shanghai composite index claimed the position.
