Taj Gibson returns to Bulls as coach

Taj Gibson retired from the NBA after 17 seasons, then turned around and took a job with the Bulls before most people finish unpacking. He was traded and waived by the Pelicans, announced his playing career was done, and the next thing you know he's on Chicago's bench as an assistant under Tiago Splitter. That's not a gap year. That's a man who already knew where he belonged. For Bulls fans it lands differently because Gibson started his career there and put in 8 seasons during a stretch the franchise counts as one of its best. He's from Brooklyn, NY, and his own words on X were that basketball let him live a dream, that he was lucky to show his talent on the biggest stage, and that this isn't goodbye to the game, just the start of a new chapter. He meant it literally. Now the job is Caleb Wilson and Nic Claxton, young frontcourt guys who get to learn from someone who spent 17 years figuring out how to survive in the league. Coming back to where it started, as a coach instead of a player, is about as full circle as it gets.
