A theoretical ceiling on solar output just got a lot less theoretical. Researchers pulled off a significant advance that could matter for the whole global energy problem, and the trick is tin-based solar panels. Those panels hold onto the warmth carried by hot electrons 1,000 times longer than the tech we've got, which lets the power generated climb past a limit everyone assumed was fixed.
