As for the rest? 2011's The Iron Lady isn't really a political biopic. It's a 105-minute argument about British political policies, and honestly the argument is that a good enough accent buys you forgiveness for privatizing a nation's social safety net. Meryl Streep is the whole engine. Without her acting performance, this script reads like a Wikipedia summary edited by a Tory spin doctor. She didn't just mimic Margaret Thatcher's voice. She captured the posture, the menacing vocal cadence, and the terrifying authority of a leader who refused to back down. Say what you want about Thatcher's politics, Streep in this role is a reminder of why she's the undisputed goat of acting.
