Deco Portugal Football Summit Álvarez

Deco didn't mince words at the Portugal Football Summit when he declared Julián Álvarez is history and that the club must look forward. The story behind that statement involves a massive €100 million offer from Barcelona for the striker, which Atlético Madrid firmly rejected. Gerard Romero reported that Barça had actually reserved nearly €130 million for a final attempt on the player before calling it off. Enrique Cerezo made it clear that Atlético never intended to sell Julián Álvarez in the first place. With those doors closed, Gabriel Jesus joined Barcelona from Arsenal as an alternative plan, with the transfer fee set at €10 million plus variables. Lautaro Martínez was considered another option by the Catalan side, but Inter Milan indicated he was not for sale. Deco confirmed that Barcelona never contacted Lautaro Martínez or his agent during their search. Despite changing plans twice, FC Barcelona has earned 21 points out of 21 possible in recent matches under Flick. Raphinha leads the offensive production for FC Barcelona while Julián Álvarez remains with Atlético Madrid at the Metropolitano.
