Lionel Messi Ballon d'Or 2026 speculation

The football world might get stunned by an unprecedented move where Lionel Messi steps aside from the Ballon d'Or 2026. Instead of accepting the award, he could formally request removal to highlight emerging talent and leave the spotlight for new generations. If this happens, the top three nominees would likely shift entirely to Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal. Mbappe is already listed with a 20% probability among those top picks while Yamal stands as another strong candidate for the spot. It's wild to think about a legend voluntarily stepping back just to make room for the next wave of stars in the game.
