the situation with Canada and the United States has shifted into a new phase where President Trump is asserting that Ottawa is being taught a lesson about future conduct. he claims Canada behaved very badly, imposing undisclosed tariffs that only he knew about before catching them in the act. all he asks is honesty because they have been deceptive and ripping off the American economy for years. the author notes that America does not need Canada while Canada desperately needs the US. PM Mark Carney cannot succeed here and is actively harming his own people and economy by trying to align with Europe which will be ineffective. treating Americans fairly remains the only viable option under Trump. trade talks might not resume before the midterm election since he is in no rush given that Canada conducts all its business with us while we do very little.
