The University of Buenos Aires handed Lionel Messi an Honorary Doctorate right before his final match against Benin, where he stepped up to score a penalty in what became his last appearance for the Argentina national team on Tuesday night. The institution described him as a model of excellence, perseverance, humility, and ethical behavior, and a constant dedication to the cause of Argentina, elevating the legend to Dr. Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini. When you tally up the career statistics with Argentina, you get 208 total games, 126 goals, and 67 assists, alongside major trophies including the FIFA World Cup, two Copa América titles, and the Finalissima. While Messi was closing that chapter, Cristiano Ronaldo is making it clear he has no plans to retire from the Portugal national team. The 41-year-old expressed anger toward manager Jorge Jesus regarding playing time decisions after walking out of the national team once he was left as an unused substitute against Norway. Ronaldo admitted breaking the coach's trust but claimed Jesus repeatedly broke his word about playing time during their interactions. Despite the tension, Ronaldo intends to return to the national team once his suspension is served, proving his stance on staying active while Messi bows out. #LionelMessi
