Mari Carmen, aged 87, died two weeks after she was evicted. The eviction came after a rent hike exceeding 200% made housing unaffordable for her. Last week, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez proposed tenant protection and rent regulation measures, but Congress rejected them. That legislative rejection led to Sánchez announcing snap elections on Monday. Voting is scheduled for November 29 in Spain.
