América Mineiro relegated to SÉRIE C

The math says América Mineiro is cooked, sliding into SÉRIE C after finishing the 32nd round with just 17 points. tbh they barely dodged the bullet last season but couldn't keep their spot this time despite five stints in Série A between 2016 and 2023. remember that Libertadores run in 2022? yeah, they even took down Barcelona in Guayaquil during the pre-tournament warmups. then came the Sudamericana where they punched through to the quarters before Fortaleza stopped them cold, plus that wild 4-1 demolition of Peñarol in the same campaign. their Copa do Brasil history isn't weak either: semifinals back in 2020, then quarterfinals again in both 2022 and 2023. all that national and continental noise over recent years leading to this... first time dropping to the third division since 2009.
