HBO's Harry Potter DP Calls Young Cast Schedules 'Brutal' - Pre-Shoots While Kids in Class

So the cinematographer for the new HBO Harry Potter series just said it's been rough dealing with the kids' school schedules. They have to pre-shoot scenes while the young actors are in class, which sounds like a logistical nightmare. I get it, they're kids and need their education, but it must be frustrating for the crew. Anyone else think this is going to be a mess to pull off?

The fact that they're shooting six setups in 90 minutes while the kids are still technically students is wild. That kind of pressure usually ruins the vibe on set.

glad the rules are actually being followed. makes sense they'd group scenes to minimize time on set though, scripts are detailed enough for that

The original films were tight little movies, but stretching this into a whole season with school hours and weather changes sounds like a logistical trainwreck waiting to happen.

Columbus knew the game: you treat kid actors like kids, not mini-adults. Throwing that kind of pressure at them without someone who actually gets it is just asking for disaster.

Why is this getting so much attention when it was literally just one offhand comment in a huge interview? Seems like they're blowing a tiny thing out of proportion.

you could just film the empty classroom and have them read lines later

Timing is wild when Rowling's drama is fresh and now we're talking about child actors' schedules.

totally agree, an animated version would let the magic breathe without stressing out kids who should be in school

true, child safety protocols are non-negotiable even if the logistics get messy

Exactly. Kids in class shouldn't be compromised for production schedules, period.

maybe skip the magic classes entirely and just let them do homework?
