I don't think there's anybody else in the world that is doing what I do. I try to capture the expressions so that they're smiling or look like they're saying something. A lot of people think it's AI, which is obviously not. I felt like it was like a mission from God. I just had to do it. My name is Jonny Käpe. I live in Gothenburg, Sweden. 15 years ago, I got interested in photography. I started out shooting concerts, but during the pandemic I didn't have anything else but the squirrels. It became the only thing. There was this open land and when I walked into it, I felt like I had walked into a fairyland. It felt magical. It was so beautiful, serene, calm. And there was a lot of squirrels, a lot of birds. And I just thought, this is the place. I started to be more in the moment, not just listening to music or podcasts. So I started to enjoy it a lot more. When I bought these cameras I was in awe I felt like I had to watch every second not to miss anything because all the details You know it a lot of small ideas to get where I am today. I like chaos in my photography. When it's something that you can't plan, you can plan for it, but you can't plan it. So I like the surprise element. I started out with putting out hazelnuts, walnuts, and sitting away back. Then I noticed one day the food ran out. And then the squirrel came up to me to tell me, hey, I need a refill. Then I realized, wow, I could probably sit a lot closer. That's kind of what sets my photography apart from most other squirrel photographers. I would think that they recognize me, but if I buy new equipment, They get very suspicious. They don't want to come up until they've checked everything out. It's just a split second to take the photo that I want. It's a rare occasion that they pose for me. So you have to be super fast. It's very magical.
