Gaming Wins Losses This Week

PlayStation ended its partnership with Hideo Kojima, leaving Physint (formerly Fizzint) to move development to Xbox after nearly getting canceled. Fans have waited since Metal Gear Solid V in 2015 for this return to tactical stealth, yet the deal fell through. Nintendo offered two Directs this week: a Zelda Direct and a General Direct. The biggest win is Metroid Ravenous, a new 2D game following Metroid Dread with a release date just a couple months away. However, a FromSoft exclusive scheduled for this year did not appear, leading to speculation that 2026 might be the actual release year. These are the major wins and losses across PS5 and Nintendo platforms.

This week has been jam-packed with gaming news, some of it's been great, some of it's been baffling, so here are the highs and lows, the wins and losses. We gotta start out with the biggest story in my eyes and a massive L, PlayStation, what is going on? Remember a while back when Herman Holtz closed out a state of play, standing next to Hideo Kojima announcing that exclusively on PlayStation, the man will be coming back to the tactical stealth espionage action world with Fizzint? Well, they've changed their mind because we learned earlier this summer, PlayStation was prepared to pull the plug and cancel the game entirely. But thankfully, Kojima was able to find a new partner for the game, and the game is still in development under Xbox now. But PlayStation, how do you fumble this? Why do you give this up? People have been waiting for Kojima's return to this genre since 2015 of Metal Gear Solid V, and you just let that go. But I'm sure they'll be okay, it's not like they're starving for well-reviewed single-player adventure games these days. On the plus side, we got two Nintendo Directs this week, and there are some pretty strong Ws. As far as I'm concerned, the biggest dub out of the Zelda Direct and the General Direct is the reveal of Metroid Ravenous, the next 2D Metroid game following up the incredibly good Metroid Dread, and it had a sick trailer that ended with a release date that's just a couple months away. But Nintendo has an L of their own because of a baffling decision. Your FromSoft exclusive set to come out this year was a no-show. Not to emotionally cushion myself, I'm now preparing for 2026 to no longer be the year of the Dustbloods. What do you think of these stories? What are your highs and lows? What are your wins and losses in the world of gaming this week?
