Creators treated like characters online
投稿者: Gigliola: Internet Culture
The question worth asking is whether the same words would get said to a creator's face. Plenty of viewers still file online creators under fiction rather than flesh and blood. What's shifting, bit by bit, is empathy, as those viewers watch their own friends and relatives get torn apart online. So which is it where you're looking: more kindness showing up, or nothing changed at all

I've seen a lot of people be a lot more respectful to me about creating content because now so many more people have had friends or family that have been shit on from haters, right? So then the empathy increases, right? So when we're in the environment where everybody has a tweet that they regret or whatever, then eventually you get desensitized to it and you realize like that's just part of it. But when it's new and the whole like canceling thing was a massive thing, we don't really know how to conduct it because we've not lived through it ourselves. But eventually enough people do, we're just like, oh, that is kind of messed up. You know what I mean? Because there's a personal connection to it. It's not just a picture or like a character on a screen. Socially, why things change so much is that we as humans, we still like people on our, like we're on someone's screen right now, Keith. Right. And they don't think that we're human beings. Do you know what I'm saying? Like they're a character, we're a character that they think, they think they can shit on. Like my uncle were to shit on the receiver on the field, you know, playing football. Do you know what I'm saying? They're like, it's the same thing where it's like, no, dude, like we're Pierce. You know what I'm saying? Like you would never in a million years say these things to my face? There's no way. We talk about how the internet is messing with all of us all the time. So if you're into that kind of thing, definitely hit follow.
