Kaiju Girl Caramelise
Spica Aoki
概要
Kuroe Akaishi keeps her head down in high school because a single moment of anger turns her skin into reptilian scales. That fear started when she scared off her first crush as a child, so she avoids everyone, especially the friendly Arata Minami. When her feelings for him spike, Kuroe does not just grow claws; she expands into a Godzilla-sized monster she calls Harudon.
Spica Aoki launched this series in February 2018 within Media Factory's Monthly Comic Alive. The author came from a shōjo background and was surprised that editors accepted the manuscript for a seinen magazine. They told her the story felt more like a romance anyway, which explains the heart-shaped pupils and sparkles that pop up during serious moments. Yen Press released the first English volume on June 12, 2019, with translation by Taylor Engel.
Later chapters reveal Kuroe is actually a kaiju born from an egg smuggled off a remote island. Her human form was just an adaptation from imprinting on a human parent as an infant. The family eventually moves to that island once classmates learn the truth. An anime adaptation produced by Liden Films premiered on July 2, 2026, earning a 7.3 rating from early viewers.
