    概要

In 1996, horror was in a weird place. The slasher boom of the early 80s had fizzled into self-parody, and the genre felt played out. Then a 31-year-old writer named Kevin Williamson sat down for three days and cranked out a script called Scary Movie, inspired by the real-life Gainesville Ripper and his own obsession with horror films. What he wrote would change everything. Wes Craven, the man behind A Nightmare on Elm Street, signed on to direct, and together they made something that felt both like a love letter to the genre and a smart, funny takedown of its clichés.

The result was Scream, a film that treats its characters like they've seen all the same movies you have. They know the rules: don't have sex, don't say "I'll be right back," never assume the killer is dead. That self-awareness was fresh in 1996, but it never undercuts the tension. Craven still delivers some of the most effective scares of his career, especially in that legendary opening scene with Drew Barrymore. The film made over $173 million on a $14 million budget and launched a franchise that's still going strong nearly thirty years later.

At its heart, Scream is about Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell with a mix of vulnerability and steel that made her an instant icon. She's a final girl for a new generation, not just a survivor but a fighter who refuses to play the victim. The supporting cast is stacked: Courteney Cox as the ruthless tabloid reporter Gale Weathers, David Arquette as the bumbling but lovable Deputy Dewey, and Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard as Billy and Stu, whose chemistry as the killer duo is genuinely unsettling. And then there's Roger L. Jackson, whose silky, menacing voice as Ghostface became as iconic as the mask itself.

Woodsboro, California is a quiet town where nothing much happens. That changes on a Friday night when high school student Casey Becker is home alone, popping popcorn and waiting for her boyfriend Steve Orth to arrive. The phone rings. A friendly stranger asks her a question: "What's your favorite scary movie?" What starts as a playful quiz about horror trivia turns sinister fast. The caller is watching her. He has Steve tied up outside. He forces Casey to play a game where getting a question wrong means death. She gets it wrong. Both she and Steve are brutally murdered, their bodies discovered by her parents the next morning.

The news hits the town hard. At Woodsboro High, students whisper about the killings, but life goes on. Sidney Prescott is trying to focus on schoolwork, but it's been a year since her mother Maureen was raped and murdered, and the pain is still raw. Her father Neil travels for work, so she's often alone. Her boyfriend Billy Loomis is supportive, but something about him feels off lately. Her best friend Tatum Riley is the one person who can make her laugh, while Tatum's older brother Dewey, a deputy sheriff, is trying to keep everyone safe with limited resources.

Then the phone rings at Sidney's house. The same voice. He knows things about her mother's death that no one should know. He attacks her, but she fights back and escapes. The killer is out there, wearing a ghost-faced mask and a black robe, and he's playing a game with Sidney and everyone around her. The body count rises: the school principal is killed in his office, Tatum is crushed in a garage door, and a local reporter named Gale Weathers shows up, smelling a story. Gale wrote a book claiming that Cotton Weary, the man convicted of Maureen's murder, was innocent, and that the real killer is still out there. Sidney hates her for exploiting her family's tragedy, but Gale might have a point.

Dewey is torn between his duty and his growing feelings for Gale, who sees the murders as her ticket back to the big time. Meanwhile, Randy Meeks, the horror-obsessed video store clerk, lays out the rules for surviving a slasher movie: never have sex, never drink or do drugs, and never say "I'll be right back." The kids at school think it's a joke, but as the killer closes in, those rules start to feel like gospel. Sidney realizes that the murders are connected to her mother's death, and someone is targeting her specifically. The question is who, and why.

The story builds toward a party at Stu Macher's house, where Sidney hopes to find safety in numbers. But the killer has other plans. The lights go out. The phone lines are cut. One by one, the guests are picked off. Sidney, Gale, Dewey, and Randy are all trapped in the house with a killer who knows every horror movie trick in the book. Sidney must use everything she's learned from a lifetime of watching scary movies to survive the night. But the biggest twist is still coming.
